I put the surgery off for a decade. Life, career, timing… you name it. But eventually, the pain outweighed the excuses. I was led to Dr. Benton Emblom and Andrews Sports Medicine through a mix of word-of-mouth, my daughter’s internship there, and a little research — including reading a sports article that Coach Nick Saban chose Dr. Emblom to perform his hip replacement surgery in 2019. That sealed it for me.
Since total shoulder replacement surgery, I’ve built my strength back up. I’m pressing 30-pound dumbbells again. I’m riding five miles on the bike three to four times a week, doing kettlebell swings with 35 pounds, and pushing sleds across the gym floor like I’m trying to move a mountain. I’ve been chopping tree roots and cleaning land again. I’m doing more now than I did 15 years ago. Dr. Christopher Garrett didn’t just fix my shoulder — he gave me back my life.
Alabama Crimson Tide star pitcher, Riley Quick, sustained an elbow injury in his first start of the 2024 season against Manhattan College, delivering three hitless innings before experiencing discomfort and being removed from the game.
This led to a diagnosis requiring UCL reconstruction, commonly known as Tommy John surgery, which was performed by Dr. Lyle Cain. After an extensive rehabilitation, Riley successfully returned to the mound for the Tide's 2025 season opener.
Throughout everything, Dr. Emblom has been an incredible support. When I saw him recently after dislocating my other kneecap, he remembered me and my previous surgery, even though it had been five years. He’s always been so personal and genuine, and that makes a huge difference.
My husband, Chandler, and I immediately knew where to turn for help — Dr. Lyle Cain at Andrews Sports Medicine. The diagnosis was devastating —an ACL tear. At just 13 years old, Embry faced a challenge unlike any she had encountered before, and as her mother, I worried not just about the physical pain but about the emotional toll it would take on her.
Just six months later, when things were looking up, another injury struck. During a lateral sprint at wrestling practice, Mason turned and tore the medial meniscus in his left knee again. Dr. McGough, who had been so kind and encouraging throughout Mason’s first surgery, reassured him and said that these things happen to athletes.
